First Popper

I can't believe it's been two week since I last posted. I went on vacation to visit family in Virginia. It was pretty hard to come home and leave that weather behind. I did the first popper fairly simple, from white to yellow to green. After seeing some other popper pics I have a couple of ideas in mind for the next few to try. I can see why guy's love making these, their pretty fun to do. Let me know what you think of it and any improvements that could be made.

  1. He looks good. For me the tail maybe a little long but thats me. Depends on what you are after. Is this the Perfect Popper body in size 8 or something you made?

  3. Its the Perfect popper body in 8. I put an order in for some size 10's can't wait to get them. I thought the tail might be a little long, wasn't really sure how far I should go with it. The next one is going to be a little different. I plan on painting it the same way but adding some half moons to make it look scaley. Probably end up painting a bunch with differing techniques till I find one I like the best. Painting it this way went quicker than I thought, I do need a better brush I think I could make the color transitions a little smoother with a softer brush.

  4. Cool. Figured it was the size 8. I just ordered 150 bodies in size 8 and 150 in size 10. Shoudl be here in three or so days. I try and keep my tail the length of the hook. Thats me though. Longer and I find that the panfish tend to nip at it. Like I said, depends on what you are going after.

  5. Cool. That's a ton of bodies, using them to fill your order I assume? Where are you getting them? I used JS but if there's another supplier that is less for bulk I'd probably get them. I really kinda enjoyed the painting.

  6. Yeah I am using them to fill orders and stock up for the future. I used J. Sotckard. I ordered the bodies Sunday night and they were shipped on Monday. Cant beat that!

  7. Hmm guess I just have bad luck, everytime I order from JS it takes about 7-10 business days to get my order. I just ordered some size 10's and a few more 8's. Just finished up my second version I like it and it was a lot easier to paint this way. Should have some pics up tomorrow or friday. A guy I work with wants me to bring in a bunch of different flies, I think if he likes them he's gonna have me tie some for him.
